A THRIFTY dad decorated the outside of his home in red and plastered a Home Alone quote across its front wall in a bid to save money on Christmas decorations.
Kai Bowman, 43, painted "Merry Christmas ya filthy animals" on his home in Maynard Close, Bristol - costing him just £30.
The dad-of-three said he decided to change his decoration tactics this year as electricity bills for outdoor colourful lights were too expensive.
In a moment of "inspiration", he bought a £30 pot of bright red exterior masonry paint and "the rest was history".
Mr Green said: "As a family we always have fun driving around touring houses that put tremendous effort into their exterior decorations.
"I soon found out it was very expensive and extremely time-consuming in a world where both time and money are in limited supply.
"This year while decorating our tree I had a moment of inspiration.
"I wanted to create a look that was relatively easy, fast and inexpensive that would look good during the day without having a huge electric bill at the end and would make families smile."
The dad claims people visit from all over Bristol to catch a glimpse of his home.
He added: "Some even take photos of their children stood in front of our house.
"Seeing people smile at something you have personally created is a great feeling, and for me it was worth all the effort."
Mr Green's extraordinary Christmas decoration idea comes weeks after a local council cordoned off a Christmas tree because it looked "disgusting".
Derby City Council created an exclusion zone around the tree, made up of metal fences, around the un-decorated tree for "public safety".
